Participants will produce work related to some part of the city on which documentation will have been gathered beforehand. These materials may include found photos, postcards, travel guides, clippings from local newspapers, photos from personal albums or information garnered from libraries, documentary holdings or on the Internet.
We will study examples of works by contemporary creators inspired by the spirit of the ready-made and recycled photos. We will help participants develop their own original project based on found pictures. The result may be satirical, irreverent, comical, aesthetic, documentary or whatever: one can choose a single purpose or all at the same time… The work can be presented in book form, as a piece to be hung on the wall, as postcards, for a website or any other medium.

In order to participate you must send an application form, a brief curriculum vitae listing your education, work and artistic experience, and a short text about 15 lines long describing why you are interested in the workshop, and a photographic work consisting of a maximum of 8 photos in PDF or JPEG format.

Workshop Information

Any age or experience level is welcome at the workshop, and last year?s was a great mix of novice to expert . Anyone ? formal or informal students, novices, etc? is welcome to attend.
However, we do have a few enrollment restrictions*, to ensure that those who would most benefit from the workshop are served.
+Freelancers with 3 years experience or less are welcome to attend.
+Newspaper staffers with 2 years experience or less or welcome to attend.
* These restrictions do NOT apply to South Asian photographers
(Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Burma, etc.)
There are 100 slots available for students.*
They are on a first come first served basis.
Once all slots are filled, the workshop will be considered full.
There will be a waiting list, as changes are sure to occur.
*Multiple slots are saved for South Asian students.
Tuition is $900 for the workshop program*. This includes six days of classes, all slideshows, panels, parties, portfolio reviews, and events during the workshop week. It does not include travel, lodging, airfare, food, etc.

From the noisy, bustling streets of the major cities to the spectacularly beautiful countryside India is a sight to behold. Generations of visitors have returned home with compelling tales of adventure and unique encounters that live on in their memory.

There are many spectacular locations to be found on the subcontinent but for the real India most of my friends say that Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is the place to go. Its streets offer up a rich pageant of all that life has to offer. For photographers such a place is a gift; you have only to spend an hour wandering through its streets and you are sure to capture compelling moments that offer an insight into the human condition. Having done this myself, I can definitely say that Kolkata has a lot to offer, and not only visually!
We are offering two workshops that address different aspects and differing ways to approach the ?City of Joy?. The Kolkata?s daily Life workshop, will explore the daily life of Kolkata. The Changing Ideas workshop will offer the possibility to work side by side with small NGO?s and document the work of these organizations.
Our base will be at the Fairlawn Hotel. Do not expect fancy rooms, but do expect an experience. The Fairlawn is a special place in central Kolkata, a meeting point for artist, writers, journalists and photographers. It will offer the perfect atmosphere for our work.

Attached please find application information for the African Photo Entrepreneur Programme. Please feel free to pass this on to any who you think would like to make application.
The African Photo Entrepreneur Programme is specifically aimed at growing photo entrepreneurs who can compete on the global stage in terms of photo production and market savvy. Launched ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the programme will be run in South Africa in the latter half of 2008 and represents an investment of over R30,000 in each participant.
The programme is sponsored in part by the European Union through Gijima KZN, an initiative of the Department of Economic Development, and requires participants to apply to be selected. A panel of eminent judges from media, art and product markets, will ensure the standard of participants is high. Judges will be announced as they are confirmed.
Part of Africa Media Online’s African Image Pipeline project, the programme includes participation in the Digital Campus, a photo assignment, and for those who carry out the assignment successfully, a further two day Global Competitiveness Masterclass.
The aim of the whole programme is to equip participants to become adept at supplying the needs of international publishing, art and product markets. It not only involves digital imaging and digital workflow skills and disciplines, but also an awareness of market demands and routes to market.

About Singapore International Photography Festival
Scheduled to take place from 8 to 31 October 2008, the Singapore
International Photography Festival (SIPF) is the first event of its kind
in Southeast Asia. This biennial festival strives to provide a platform
for local and Southeast Asian artists to showcase their works alongside
their international peers in various venues across Singapore. Central to
the SIPF is a series of short workshops and lectures facilitated by
curators and senior photographers for 30 selected Southeast Asian
photographers under the age of 35. Along with the official exhibitions and
programme, there is SIPF Fringe which counts on participation of arts
galleries, arts spaces and education institutions to promote the
appreciation of photography across Singapore.
The SIPF committee is made up of volunteers and relies on the good will
and support from various institutions, corporate organisation and the
public to make this festival a reality.

SIPF Open Call Submission
The fesitval is looking for:
a) Exhibition proposals by photographers and artists (henceforth referred
to collectively as “artists”). This section is open to all artists with no
age limit.
b) Participants for the portfolio review/workshops/lectures (which will
run from 8 to 15 October 2008) in Singapore. This is only open to 30
selected participants holding Southeast Asian passports with priority
given to those under the age of 35.
An artist can only submit a maximum of two projects for the festival.
If you are eligible for (b), your proposal will automatically be
considered for the exhibition.
Applicants for either (a) or (b) must send in a Project Submission
Each project submission should include:
1) a resume (not more than two A4-size pages),

b) date of birth
c) nationality
2) a one-paragraph bio (about 200 words)
3) an artist’s statement (not more than two A4-size pages).
The artist’s statement should include:
a) your name
b) a clear explanation about your work
c) how the work should be presented (prints, self-made books, video, etc)
d) year(s) in which it is made.
4) Jpeg images (in a zipped folder, if possible)
a) do not send more than seven images for each project.
b) each image in 72 dpi, compression 7-8, and with its shorter side at 10cm.
c) if necessary, include a caption list in a Microsoft Word document.

About Exhibition Proposals
There is no theme to the festival. Photography must be used in the process
of creating the work. All genres of photography are accepted.
International artists especially those working in underrepresented and
misrepresented regions are welcomed to submit their works. Submissions by
Southeast Asian artists will be given priority. There is no age limit for
this section.
The SIPF is especially keen to showcase independent, long-term or ongoing
projects. The festival is not interested in single images. It will also be
difficult, though not impossible, to showcase works completed more than
five years ago.
Submitted works may be presented in prints, self-made books, video, or any
other format as suggested by the artist. Due to budgetary concerns, the
SIPF prefers print-based works. The festival is unable to showcase
handmade prints unless the selected artist is willing to pay for the
courier fee. Epson (Singapore Pte Ltd) is the official printer for SIPF.
About Portfolio Review/Workshops/Lectures
The portfolio review/workshops are only open to 30 selected artists
holding Southeast Asian passports. Southeast Asian countries include
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia,
Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei and East Timor. Official SIPF lectures
are open to additional 30 participants on top the 30 selected artists.
As this is a non profit event run by volunteers, each Singaporean artist
selected for the portfolio review/workshops/lectures will be required to
pay a subsidised amount of S$100 to help cover the cost of workshop and
Festival Grant Assistance: Each artist from the rest of the Southeast
Asian countries selected for the portfolio review/workshops/lectures is
qualified to apply for a grant to partially fund her or his trip to the
festival. The grant will help to cover the costs of the workshops,
materials and part of their travel expenses on a reimbursement basis.
Legal issues
All artists retain the creator’s right to the submitted works. If a
project is selected, the artist is obliged to temporarily transfer her or
his right of the images to the SIPF, so that (1) the images can be
produced for the exhibition, (2) used in the festival’s publicity drive
and (3) shown in subsequent tours. The artist will be credited each and
every time her or his work is used..

Photoreportage on Climate Change:

Thirty four students from Edith Cowan University and Pathshala (2nd year), are working all over Bangladesh on the theme ‘Climate Change’. They will be presenting their work on the 2nd and 3rd February 2008.
Masterclass: Investigative Journalism for Television
This Workshop is a three day course on investigative TV-journalism, including fields of investigative reporting in today’s Bangladesh, television
reporting, research methods, financial reporting and photo-journalism. It will take place in December on the premises of Pathshala and Drik in Dhaka,
Bangladesh. It is open to media professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills on investigative tv-reporting.
The course is being sponsored by Drik Picture Library Ltd. There is however a token fee of Taka 3,000 per applicant. Applicants unable to pay this token fee are requested to apply for a further waiver from Drik.
Applicants are expected to be already conversant with television reporting and/or investigative journalism and to have a working knowledge of English. This is not a technical course, but deals more with the investigative process. However relevant technical issues will be touched upon.
Applicants are requested to apply by email to by the 28th November 2007. They should provide a current CV, citing their work experience, and a 200 word statement outlining why they are interested in the course. Successful
