ALTlab Photography Residency
ALTlab Photography Residency has been designed by Goa Center for Alternative photography (Goa-CAP) to support artists who want to explore and experiment with their approach to the photographic medium.
ALTlab is focussed?on nurturing
?????? Film photographers, working hard but in isolation to develop their artistic skills to create and convey meaning through their works
?????? Digital? photographers who are looking for alternative ways to think about image creation and printing
?????? Artists of any medium who are eager to use a dark room and silver to create images.
One month Altlab Photography residency of 6 artists, working without distraction, engaging in an interdisciplinary approach to both the investigative process and the production of work, leading to new thoughts, tools, and things unexpected and unpredictable.?This unique residency will offer the participants an opportunity for exploration, reflection and experimentation.
Altlab will organise one workshop and interactions with the practicing artists to enhance the knowledge and skills of the residents. The workshop subject and resource person would be decided after seeing the interests of the participants. By nurturing a peer to peer relationship of conversation and experience-exchange, the Goa-CAP will provide dialogue, advice, support, contacts and information that contribute to the development of the residents? art practice.
Residents receive 24/7 access to Goa-CAP workspace facilities including black-&-white darkroom, and Alternative Lab, and technical support. The residency will also have a Mentor who?through rigorous one on one dialogue and group critiques, shall enable the resident artists to digest and refine their conceptual and material choices including extending their research base.?At the end of the residency, there will be an ‘OpenLab day’?where the artists in residence will get an opportunity to share their work and ideas developed during the residency, with Goa?s art community and the general public.
Altlab is managed on a not-for-profit basis by Goa-CAP. Though Goa-CAP covers the management and maintenance of all facilities, we are unable to cover the actual costs of renting or providing other forms of financial support, such as a stipend for living expenses, materials or airfare. As there is currently no funding available in India for initiatives like ours, participants are expected to cover the costs of living, studio, and accommodation whilst Goa-CAP provides all the necessary support to make your time here fruitful and enjoyable.
Residents come from overseas by funding themselves or seeking funding from arts organisations in their own country. We work with artists who can organise their own funds and or have received grants to cover their residency. In addition, we are partnered with multiple cultural organisations that have the interest and resources to send artists here. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from relevant organisations in their own country. Once accepted, Goa-CAP will provide letters of support to assist with grant applications.
Goa Center in India
Swaying palms, white sands and sparkling waters: the three essential elements that attract two million visitors annually to Goa?s balmy shores are plentiful in this tiny, glorious slice of India hugging the country?s western coastline and bounded by the Arabian Sea.?Goa-CAP lab is surrounded by several coconut trees and stones in the Calangute village which is famous for beaches. Residents shall have 24-hour access to the lab. Goa-CAP provides the Black and white darkroom for the residents for use throughout the day.?The residency will be of one month duration and maximum number of 6 artists will be participating in this residency.
Accommodation
Goa-CAP can suggest accommodation based on the choice of the residents. Please note that the accommodation cost is not included in the residency fee.

Guidance & Support
????????? Goa-CAP will appoint a Mentor who will guide you to achieve the residency objective
????????? Goa-CAP will also provide all materials for the research.
????????? Goa-CAP will try and put a list of experts in the field of art, history and anthropology.? Residents will have to take initiative to arrange meetings with these experts to learn from them.
????????? Residents can suggest and inform (in advance) Goa-CAP if they have any special requirements.

????????? Residents should come with own medical/accident/health insurance.
????????? International or Domestic airfares, airport departure taxes or visa fees, excess baggage charges, additional nights during the trip due to flight cancellations, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages or bottled water, snacks, insurance of any kind, laundry, phone calls, radio calls or messages, reconfirmation of International or Domestic flights and items of personal nature
How to Register
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis beginning May 1, 2013, and continuing until sessions are full or the first day of class.To register in the Altlab Photography Residency, please download the registration packet. Cancellation and Refund Policy
Request for Cancellation and refunds must be submitted in writing and dated. For a full refund (minus 15% Bank charges), Goa-CAP must be notified no later than one months prior to the beginning of each Residency. No refunds will be issued after that time. All approved refunds take at least four weeks to process. Goa-CAP is not responsible for providing refunds due to illness, emergencies, or events beyond our control.
